House Schmidek
Schmidek family house in Alheim (Germany)
This house was built on the southern slope, thus taking advantage of sunlight, and this also determined the character of the interior in the double-height living room equipped with a gallery.
The building is constructed of wooden structures, and the natural glued-wood element coverings are a visible part of the interior. The surface of ceiling made of untreated wood – breathes, in the truest sense of the word, adjusting the humidity level in the room. The warmth of the wood is juxtaposed with the steel profiles of the supporting framework and a filigree staircase, the railings of which are formed from INOX stainless steel cables.
Clearly visible in the photos are the solar collectors installed on the roof, where water is warmed for the heating system. Technically, even today, this house can serve as a model. The Aereco controlled ventilation system is installed. The air-tightness of the structure, before the finishing work started, was verified using the Blower Door Test method.
In the design of the facade, the plastered planes blend in with larch and aluminum panels.
The house was designed and built in 1999-2000 by the Hausbauplus Bureau. All stages of the design and supervision: A. Al-Samarrai, D. Kats.
